Do not use a heavy roller, you do not want to over compact the soil you just loosened up. Avoid using a roller if possible if you have access to a drilling type of seeder. A slit seeder or drill type seeder will tend to level as it goes. This is also the point in which to correct grading issues in the lawn. Since you have loosened the soil it is easy to redistribute the soil to areas where it is needed. Low spots that hold water or cause problems mowing should be filled. It is also important to get the grade of the soil to slope away from the house or landscaping. It is always a good idea to have water running away from your home or business instead of towards it. Minor grading issues can be fixed with a garden rake by moving and leveling soil out by hand. Larger grading issues will require a harrow or maybe even a tractor depending on the severity of the grade problems or the size of the area you are seeding.
